2016-2017 Communicative Disorders Scholarship
February 1, 2018
David Kessler didn’t always know what he wanted to be when he grew up, but his deep rooted passion for philanthropy and helping others inevitably paved the way.
He is currently pursuing his doctorate in audiology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. At school, he dedicates a great deal of his time to learning and making a difference in his community and academic field.
David volunteers at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt’s Children Hospital screening the hearing of infants. In addition, he helps out at Mama Lere Preschool assisting children with hearing loss and at HEAR Nashville – an initiative supported by the Sertoma Club of Nashville, which provides hearing aids to those in needs.
David’s dream job after school includes working with both children and adults to ensure they live a healthier hearing life. Your donations to Sertoma’s Annual Fund have allowed him to turn this dream into a reality, as he is expected to graduate in 2020.
“I’d like to send a big thank you to all of the donors who support this scholarship,” David said. “Your support of the next generation of speech and hearing professionals is so appreciated. It really does make a difference in reducing the financial burden of textbooks and tuition.”
