2017-18 Communicative Disorders Scholarship

January 4, 2019

Ashley’s grandfather suffered from three strokes, which drastically affected his ability to communicate with loved ones. At the rehabilitation center, Ashley observed speech-language pathologists working tirelessly to improve the muscles that affected his speech and swallowing.

“When my grandpa returned home, I was able to persuade him to perform the exercises he so stubbornly refused to do for anyone else,” she said. “From then on, I knew that speech-language pathology was my calling.”

Ashley loves the challenge and diversity of speech-language pathology, and finds inspiration in every person that she helps.

She is currently obtaining her Master of Arts degree at the University of Akron, in Akron, Ohio. She is on track to graduate in May 2020.

“This scholarship gives me the ability to reach my aspirations so that I can further my education and help my clients better!” Ashley exclaimed. “The clients’ deserve the best care possible, and because of your gifts, I can provide the best quality and treatment that they deserve.”

Every gift to Sertoma’s Annual Fund makes it possible for students just like Ashley to excel in their field, help others and reach their goals.
