Bailey Simon is no stranger to the medical field as she’s witnessed firsthand how dedicated and educated professionals can change a person’s life. In fact, her desire to become an audiologist was sparked by seeing her father survive and experience a medical miracle.
Her father is the first known survivor of Graft vs. Host disease—a rare and deadly condition where donor bone marrow or stem cells attack the recipient.
It was this very moment that filled Bailey with the fire and passion to pursue her own life-changing career of audiology. Thanks to your Annual Fund donations, Bailey has begun moving forward with her dream at the University of Oklahoma and is evaluating, counseling and assisting patients through her program’s clinic hours. Bailey says it is the most challenging, yet the most rewarding part of her schooling thus far. She is also enjoying her Advanced Anatomy and Physiology Hearing class.
When Bailey is not studying, she can be found acting, volunteering or running her online sustainable clothing business, which helps the environment by keeping clothes out of landfills.
Her father is unfortunately still fighting for his life and has been placed on an organ transplant list for the fourth time now. His medical bills have made it difficult for her family, and for her, to pay for college and daily expenses.
“If I could say one thing to the individuals who made this scholarship possible (other than a huge thank you), it would be that this means even more than you can imagine!” Bailey exclaimed. “Thank you for investing in me and my entire future. Without this scholarship, my future may have looked very different. It is easy to get overwhelmed, and now I can worry less about making ends meet.”
