Happy New Year!
July 11, 2019
It’s a new year here at Sertoma, and I’d wager I’m more excited than anyone in Sertoma about 2019-20. Heck, the next few weeks are going to be exciting ones!
Let’s start with today: I’m writing this from a plane on my way to another organization’s conference, where I’ve got a full day of meetings with fundraising professionals who will be helping us develop training modules on fundraising events and donor psychology that you can use in your clubs.
In just a few short weeks, your Sertoma Board of Directors will be in Kansas City for my first planning meeting. This is where we begin to set overarching strategy for Sertoma: what are our goals? What is the direction of the organization—how do we want it to develop in the coming years, and where are the opportunities to make our clubs stronger and develop a national identity?
After that, the fun really starts for us in the HQ office, because then we get to put things into action, and we get to tell you all about what’s coming.
Speaking of, I have some news you should know: I’ll be able to attend all but one region meeting this year! If you’re in these regions and have thought that maybe this year was one to skip, I’d urge you to reconsider, because I’d love the chance to meet you. This year I’ll be attending the following regional conventions:
- Great Lakes
- Heart of America
- Mountain West
(Great Plains, I’ll see you in 2020!)
I’m really looking forward to meeting more members, doing some learning, and also getting the chance to talk to you about what’s coming for Sertoma!
As for what’s happening immediately, look for a few changes coming up. We’ve made some additions to the annual fund awards, including making it easier to give monthly by becoming a sustaining member. Full details here! This month you’ll also see some redesigned e-newsletters, and don’t forget to look for your copy of the Sertoman coming in August.
What gives us the opportunity for all these really cool changes is a solid structure and foundation. We’ve got a solid plan in place for our structure in Vision 2020, but we need your help to put it on stable footing. I’m personally asking all Sertomans to consider serving as a Communication or Mission Specialist.
As a Mission Specialist, you’ll be visiting with clubs near you to talk about the overall Sertoma mission as well as giving advice with community based mission and fundraising. If donors, events and fundraising are what get you going, this is the position for you! The position requires just a few hours a month and a few conference calls throughout the year.
And if you love people and your idea of a good time is getting on the phone and hearing about what’s new, the Communication Specialist position is where we need you! You’ll have ten clubs that we’ll ask you to contact once each quarter, sometimes with a specific message, and sometimes just to get information back from the clubs! This is where we’ll be getting new ideas and feedback on what’s working and what isn’t, so this is an imperative position for us to fill.
I’ll be right back here next time, but until then, thank you so very much for joining us as a member, and like you, I’m Proud to be a Sertoman!
