Strategy and Changes
August 1, 2019
Well, here we are again! It’s getting ready to be a significant time for Sertoma, so I’m checking in with everyone before my week starts to get crazy!
Last week was consumed with one thing–preparing for my first board meeting with Sertoma! We’ve had some calls, and I was around for the April board meeting, but this is the big one. We’ve got the usual reports and some normal decisions to make, but we’ll be taking a significant amount of time to do some Strategic Planning.
This is one of my favorite activities, so I’m really looking forward to it. The board has a lot of articles to read and some videos to watch to form a basis and a shared language for talking about what the future looks like.
One thing I can say about planning is this: You can prepare for weeks and months for everything you think is going to happen, and never know exactly what’s coming! This year, we have an edge going into planning: Vision 2020 is in place, and we’re filling positions and working at getting the communication channels opened with our specialists. That leaves the board some freedom to talk about the big questions: Does what we do match what we say we do? If not, what needs to change? If so, how can we enhance it? With Hearing Charities of America established and having a whole lot of success with the Hearing Aid Project, how can we best align Sertoma and HCOA more closely? Speaking for myself, I can say that I’m a little alarmed that there are people who didn’t realize that I’m the Executive Director of both organizations and the close relationship between the two–we need to do a much better job in reminding Sertomans that HCOA is their project–it exists because of Sertoma!
So stay tuned here and be sure to get to your Region Convention!! We’ve got some exciting things to tell you about, and after this weekend, we’ll have even more!
