Welcome to Sertoma!

March 14, 2019

We are excited to announce that Aaron Ensminger will be the new Executive Director of Sertoma Inc., and Hearing Charities of America (HCOA). Aaron is a proud native of Kansas City, Missouri, and will begin his Sertoma journey and new role on Monday, April 15, 2019.

Aaron obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, and his master’s degree from Lehigh University, located in Bethlehem, PA. He comes to us from the National Auctioneer Association (NAA), after serving six years as the NAA’s Director of Education. In his previous role, he was responsible for developing and promoting educational programs, both in-person and online for the auction industry.

Aaron has a strong background in communications, budgeting, membership and management. He plans to bring a diverse amount of experience, skills and knowledge to Sertoma. He is particularly eager to work with a membership based organization filled with genuine and fantastic people.

“I hope to bring to Sertoma a steady and energetic Board liaison experience and the competence and composure that come from being a Certified Association Executive with 15 years of experience,” Aaron said. “Coming from a background of professional membership associations, I’m looking forward to learning more about Sertoma and how I can contribute to our success.”

When Aaron is not hard at work developing new ideas or working with board members, he can be found spending time with his wife of 14 years, Angela, and two sons, ages 8 and 10. He enjoys traveling to new places, especially the beach, and watching his children play basketball and soccer.

If you are interested in learning more about Aaron, his goals and expectations, you will have the opportunity to meet him at Sertoma’s national convention in Kansas City April 25-27. If you are not able to attend, you may contact headquarters at 816.333.8300 and your questions will be directed to him.

  • Richard Vandiver says:

Aaron, welcome to Sertoma. As a Life Member who originally joined Sertoma in 1970 I have lived through exhilarating times of success and excruciating times of inneffectiveness. The last ten years have been extremely frustrating as we have abandoned many of our core principles, turned our backs on the things that made our organization great, stripped our members of their roles in guiding Sertoma and dismantled the organization structure that helped build it. We subjugated the multi-faceted options for service to a narrow-minded tunnel-vision and, as a result, have seen membership plummet. We created ‘club-building requirements’ that are not just self-defeating, they are downright masochistic.

We are an organization made up of some of the most outstanding individuals on this planet being led by a board that seems dedicated to our destruction. We have a chance to recover from the failings of the last decade but it will be difficult. If you are sincerely interested in helping us save Sertoma we can help you do that. But – you must be an honest listener, a true believer in the valu of service to mankind and a committed zealot in this grand mission to which my brother and sister Sertomans are committed. Please help us reverse the destructive course we are presently following.
